Description: Exceptionally large and very beautifully preserved terracotta cup from the settlement hill Hacılar Höyük in southwestern Türkiye. The hand formed vessel, belonging to the Chalcolithic layer 5, stands on a flattened base. The body has an ovoid cross section, the wall is slightly bulbous and ends on top in a rounded, slightly outwards pulled rim. At the outermost edge, two vertically pierced eyelets are positioned opposite each other. Striking is the wonderfully preserved painting in red colour. Around the rim thick encircling bands. Below thick zig zag bands, seven on one side, on the other six. A very well-preserved evidence dating to the early period of the Chalcolithic ceramic art.
