Provenance: Austrian private collection Prof. Josef Mairitsch (1938-1994) with the inventory number 51A. Acquired between 1960 and the early 1980s. Thence in the family estate. With a collection note.
Condition: Intact, paint in some areas slightly faded.
Description: Bulbous vase from Luristan, northwest Iran, dating to the Iron Age II. The vessel stands on a flattened base and has an estuary-shaped spout. The wall outside is decorated with “hatched lozenges”, typical for the Luristan ceramic. Triangles stacked above each other are painted in between. Encircled chain bands are on the body as well as on the neck. The inside is decorated with short tongues from the rim on. See for the type the vase in the Louvre with the object number AO14959.
