Description: Interesting small terracotta figure of the Neolithic Vinča culture from Serbia. The stylized depiction shows a fertility goddess with her head drawn back. She has a massive body decorated with a latticework decoration on the front of her abdomen and an engraved chain around her neck. The legs extend out to the sides, and the buttocks extend far back. The short, stubby arms are also slightly turned back, probably to further emphasize the roundness of the abdomen. Vinča figures like this were used for ritual purposes and served as fertility idols. From the Supska-Stublina area.
