Provenance: From the private collection of the French archaeologist Louis-Gabriel Bellon (1819-1899). For over 120 years in a family estate. With a TL test and a French antiquities passport.

Condition: A barely visible splice on the back of the head, suggesting that the head is reattached. Otherwise very beautifully preserved.

Description: Exceedingly graceful Hellenistic terracotta statuette of a dancing girl. She throws her head in motion backwards, her eyes closed, lost in her dancing. She wears a thick wreath of hair, the thick, wavy hair covering her ears. Her thin, wide dress cascades from and uncovers her right shoulder, in the front she holds it with her right hand. The left arm is pushed against her hip, while she boldly presents the curves of her buttock. An interesting dancing position, underlining the Hellenistic artists’ attention to details, who studied the movements of the human body and its expressions. Possibly from Myrina. On the back two old collection labels. With a TL test of 23 October 2021 confirming the age of the statuette.
